Barkatna Dried Vegetables is a wholly owned subsidiary and agricultural brand of SOMARAIN ORIENTAL CO. LTD ., specializing in the production and marketing of high-quality dried vegetables.

SOMARAIN ORIENTAL CO. LTD. has established a solar-powered onion, okra, and tomato slicing and drying facility in New Halfa, Kassala State, Sudan. The project is designed to reduce post-harvest losses by converting fresh vegetables into value-added products using environmentally friendly solar drying technology.

The project contributes to sustainable agricultural development by promoting the use of clean energy in agro-processing, extending the shelf life of agricultural products, and improving food security. It also creates employment opportunities for local communities—particularly for women and youth—while strengthening partnerships with farmers and agricultural cooperatives.
